Celebrating Chinese New Year in the North

Chinese New Year will be held on January 25, 2020 and will mark the start of the new year according to the Chinese calendar, with each year being represented with an animal. 2020 is the year of the Rat which signifies the beginning of a new day. In Chinese culture, the rat is also a sign of wealth.

Chinese New Year can be celebrated in a number of different ways. Families and friends spend quality time with a special home cooked dinner. Red envelopes are given to children and teenagers often filled with money to represent luck and positivity.  Recently an app was created so that teenagers can receive money from loved ones on their mobile phones!
