Summer in the North: Timmins 2019
First of all…Timmins is way more than Shania Twain. So let’s get that out the way. Yeah she’s awesome and a true Canadian icon, but there is tons more to experience in the city of Timmins. So, lets get to it!
Did you know that there are numerous activities to keep you entertained? From festivals to events, exploring the great outdoors to an eventful night life, there is always something to do – even enough to make Timmins your forever home!
Timmins is also the home to Northern College, one the six Northern Ontario colleges part of the Study North Initiative.
Are you interested in fishing, canoeing, kayaking, boating or recreational camping? Timmins has kilometres of river systems to access, freshwater lakes for swimming, and creeks with an assortment of fish including pickerel, northern pike, whitefish, and the legendary sturgeon.
They have four private camp grounds and three Provincial Parks to visit too!
What about paddling? Well then, the Timmins Great Canadian Kayak Festival is for you! Running August 24-26, this event offers tons of fun activities, including pontoon rides, demonstrations, challenges, music and even fireworks!
Looking for great places to bike and hike? Timmins and area has 18 parks that you can visit ranging in difficulty and distance; from leisurely strolls to 80 km rides. No matter what your skill level, Timmins has a path to serve your needs.
Music fan? Well you are in luck! The 5th annual Bannerman Park Summer Concert Series gets underway July 11th and will feature performances again on July 25th, August 8th and 22nd. The Porcupine Art Club will also be on hand for a “paint to the music” experience.
